The follow up to 2011’s Mirrorwriting, Making Time eschews all the hallmarks of its predecessor in favour of traditional instrumentation: drums, bass, piano and guitar. Nominated for a Mercury Music Award in 2016, Pitchfork says “The album sounds loose and organic, revealing layers of precision in the production and recording on repeated listens.”
Using a book from the artist about I Ching as a starting point, as well as ideas centred around Wabi-Sabi (which relates to Zen Buddhism), the resulting artwork utilises an array of different techniques and hand-made processes created in-house, to reflect the quiet, crafted quality of the music. Generously proportioned, the crisp package gives space for the different textures to co-exist.
A logotype was also created, which is used across various platforms.
